The WindowFarms project is about encouraging urban people to grow their own vegetables in their apartment windows. Window farms are vertical, modular, low-energy, high-yield edible window gardens built using low-impact or recycled local materials.
The first goal was to start a Windowfarming craze in New York City and other dense urban areas. So far it has evolved into a movement in many countries, and in Finland it will be the theme for an art project at Kiasma during this spring.
The second goal is to encourage ordinary folks to collaborate on research and development of these vertical hydroponic food-growing curtains through the community site.
